私の著書『シャーロック・ホームズの世界 大図鑑』が、日本シャーロック・ホームズ大賞を授与されたと知り、驚くとともに大変光栄に存じます。
日本シャーロック・ホームズ・クラブは、あと2年で創立から半世紀目を迎えると聞きました。そうした由緒あるクラブの方々全員に、心より感謝いたします。
ホームズの物語は、130年以上ものあいだ、日本の読者や研究者に読み解かれ、翻訳され、愛されてきました。コナン・ドイルの偉大な創造物が、今なお日本でこれほどまでに尊敬され、高く評価されていることを知り、大変嬉しく思います。
あらためて、お礼申し上げます。
I was thrilled and greatly honoured to learn that I have been awarded a prize by the Japan Sherlock Holmes Club for my book The Worlds of Sherlock Holmes. I am most grateful to members of your prestigious club which I know celebrates its half century in a couple of years. The Sherlock Holmes stories themselves have been pored over, translated and cherished by Japanese readers and scholars for more than 130 years. It is heartening to know that Conan Doyle's great creation continues to be so respected and so well served in your country. Thanks very much.
